The collision took place in Bridgeport around 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the area of Railroad Avenue and Hancock Avenue.

According to Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the Bridgeport Police, the 911 Center received several calls regarding a sport utility vehicle that had struck a pole. Callers were uncertain if any occupants were still in the SUV.

Bridgeport firefighters arrived on the scene first and found a completely damaged utility pole and the unoccupied 2016 Kia Soul that had been reported stolen earlier on Tuesday, Wilson said.

The Emergency Operations Center contacted hospitals for patients who recently arrived with injuries from motor vehicle accidents and were told a juvenile had arrived at Bridgeport Hospital with serious injuries, he said.

The 12-year-old was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and is listed in serious condition, officials said.

Wilson said anyone with information about "this serious crash," is asked to contact Officer Eroildo Quiles at 475-422-6141 or utilize the Bridgeport Police Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS.
